Prisym ID will host a webinar on ‘The GHS Countdown’ at 4pm BST (11am EDT) on Tuesday September 28. The event will explore the upcoming Global Harmonized System requirements which need to be met by December 1 2010.

The largest problem faced by the global chemical and pharmaceutical industry is the inconsistent classification of chemicals, says the company. A substance which is classed as toxic in one part of the world may not be considered toxic in another. This creates many challenges in the global supply chain.

The UN has issued a mandate to standardize both classification and communication: Globally Harmonized System (GHS). GHS aims to improve health and safety by ensuring consistent hazard communication on chemicals. It will also reduce the regulatory burden on manufacturers who currently struggle with many different systems of classification depending on the country. The deadline for GHS substance reclassification in the EU is December 1 with further deadlines to follow.

The 60-minute session looks at how to plan and implement GHS across an organization with minimal impact. The session will help to:

• Gain an understanding of GHS in practical terms

• Walk through the finalized timeline

• Understand how to adhere to label requirements successfully

• Recognize the importance of validation and traceability

• Produce secure, automated and accurate labeling for global distribution
