Sherwood licenses ‘color change’ technology

The Siegwerk group is to market a new range of inks produced using Sherwood's patented DataLase color-change chemistry via a non-exclusive license agreement.  DataLase combines chemistry, substrate conversion and laser energy, using very low power laser light for the high speed printing of images. It is a non-contact alternative to traditional printing methods, with applications including date-coding, bar-coding and graphics.
Under the terms of this agreement, Siegwerk will use the DataLase concentrate specifically for patch printing, where DataLase is applied in discrete areas on the packaging - for example where a virtual label will appear - as opposed to flood coating, where DataLase is applied to the whole surface.
Headquartered in Siegburg, Germany, Siegwerk Group is the third largest European manufacturer of printing ink. The company has eight subsidiaries worldwide and representatives in over 50 countries. After the acquisition of the US printing ink manufacturer Color Converting (CCI), the company has risen to become the number two in the market for packaging ink in North America and Europe.
