Sherwood Technology Ltd has announced the positive conclusion of discussions with Sicpa, the provider of inks and security solutions. Sicpa will be marketing a range of inks produced from Sherwood's patent specified color-change chemistry - DataLase, the infinite coding, marking and printing solution - via a non-exclusive supply licence agreement. The agreement will enable the Swiss-based company to make DataLase branded inks available to a global audience, as part of a total printing and marking solution to a wide range of market sectors including labels, tobacco applications, flexible packaging, paper and board packaging.
Under the terms of the agreement, the two companies will add significant value through a combination of Sicpa's vast experience of ink formulation and manufacture, and Sherwood's technical proficiency in laser responsive color change chemistry. The DataLase brand is poised to create significant benefits for Sicpa's printing and converting customers.
‘We have had a successful working relationship with Sherwood Technology over the past two years on a mutual cooperation basis,’ comments Peter Hilpert, managing director of SICPA-AARBERG, Switzerland. ‘This agreement enables us to combine the DataLase marking chemistry with our specialized ink-making technology and global infrastructure, to offer a total coding and marking service to our clients.’
‘Sicpa has the expertize and knowledge in the inks and printing markets to help make DataLase available to a wider market,’ says Steve Kelly, managing director of Sherwood. ‘The company has a global commitment to quality, innovation, added value for the customer, and the environment, which complements our product perfectly.’
DataLase combines chemistry, substrate conversion and laser energy, using very low power laser light for the high speed printing of images. DataLase is a precise, non-contact alternative to traditional printing methods, providing an infinite array of solutions, for example date-coding, bar-coding and graphics. It is completely flexible and is equally suitable for metal decoration, flexible packaging, paper, board and plastics.
