Silicone coating record claimed

A world record speed for silicone coating of paper was set at a technical symposium arranged by Kroenert Group in their Technology Center in Hambury on September 7-8. The Kroenert RECO 800 A machine with 6-roller-silicone-coating head was working at a width of 1.230 mm. It reached speeds of 1610 m/min on UPM Glassine HON 53 release liner using Dow Corning’s new Syl-Off Advantage Series high-speed, solventless silicone coating system. Coverage was claimed as excellent, with no visible silicone mist at the coating head – a common problem in high-speed coating.

“This is not simply an incremental improvement, but a phenomenal advance in high-speed processing,” says Luc Dusart, Dow Corning’s global marketing manager for release coatings. The previous world record for applying solventless silicone release coatings to paper was 1,000 meters per minute.
