Trident, part of the Sonoco group, in Hull, UK, plans to double in size within the next 12 months and says that this expansion would not be possible without DeskPack and BackStage, JDF-enabled workflow servers from Scope, Esko’s integrated packaging software suite.

‘Without Esko’s Scope software tools we use, we would not be able to function,’ explained technical director Jon Stevens. ‘We plan to expand by additional 15,000 square feet and extend our company with 100 new employees. With Scope software tools being an integral part of our operation – we have acquired already 50 more DeskPack licences and additional BackStage servers in the process.

Trident is one of the UK’s top three artwork manipulation and data processing companies working for clients such as Procter & Gamble (P&G), Philips, SC Johnson and Boots Healthcare.

‘We currently have 50 DeskPack licenses in different flavors and two BackStage servers with stand-in, to enable us to load balance the demand on the server,’ said technical director Jon Stevens. ‘The ability of the packaging software suite, and its licensing of Adobe Illustrator, makes it an essential part of the fabric of our Apple Macintosh-based operation.’

DeskPack for Adobe Illustrator is a high-performance professional plug-in that integrates structural design with graphic design and transforms concepts into print ready production files without leaving Adobe Illustrator with a set of sophisticated prepress tools.

BackStage integrates with Trident’s in-house designed MIS, named ‘Zen’. The automation of workflow in a structured format is essential to Trident since it is the European guardian of global brands such as Wash ‘n’ Go, Pantene, Nurofen, E45, Glade, Breeze and Raid.

Trident takes approved artwork from global brand designers and re-structures it for the European market. The company now deals with almost 60 different printers throughout Europe and is the mediator between designer and printer, where conflict can arise.

The integration of BackStage and Zen enables DeskPack to provide seamless transformation of design concepts into print ready production files supported by the automated workflow, error handling and MIS integration facilities of BackStage.
