Spear USA has been recognized with a Patriotic Employer Award for its support of an employee serving with the 278th Tennessee National Guard unit in Iraq. The award was given by the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) organization.

Dan Pinkowsky, an ink technician at the label converter, received packages and emails from co-workers while on duty. ‘It was a motivational factor,’ he said, thanking his colleagues.

Carl Lambert, area chairman for the ESGR, presented the awards to Pinkowsky and his boss, John Hopper, press and ink technical manager.

Lambert explained that ESGR not only supports the Guard and Reserve, but also ensures employers follow federal law to hold the soldier's job until they return. He said Pinkowsky nominated Spear USA and its employees for the award.

Lambert had Rod Stough, Spear's director of operations, sign a ‘Statement of Support’ pledging the company's support of the Guard and Reserve, and the company will follow the law to hold jobs of any employee who might be called to military service.

Pinkowsky serves as a sergeant in the 2nd Squadron of the 278th and returned in early July from a deployment north of Baghdad
