Stora Enso to launch sustainable solution for brewery self-adhesive labeling
The Global Speciality Papers Group of Stora Enso, a paper and board manufacturer, has initiated development of a new label paper grade for self-adhesive labeling applications used by breweries. The new product is being designed for optimal performance in high-speed bottle labeling operations and is expected to be released during the second quarter of 2006.
Stora Enso initiated development of this new product in response to growing global interest from breweries seeking to reduce material costs, improve production efficiency and use labels with environmentally friendly characteristics.
‘There is a general trend of brand owner awareness in using a cost-effective and sustainable packaging alternative to plastic films. This has created increased interest in paper for large-scale self-adhesive label applications,’ said Eckhard Kallies, director of sales for technical and label papers at Stora Enso. ‘Paper labels offer unique advantages to brewers. With significant cost savings over film and less price volatility, our new pressure-sensitive label paper will offer breweries exceptional performance and a sustainable label alternative for the one-way bottle segment.’
To optimize production capabilities, extensive development testing is being conducted on all facets of label production, from printing, lamination and die-cutting to automated label application systems.
