Lecta packaging paper now produced without PFAS

A PFAS-free portfolio that enables converters and brand owners to transition to safer materials aligned with a changing regulatory landscape.

Lecta has confirmed that its entire packaging portfolio, including its food packaging range,  is produced without added PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances). The move establishes a company-wide global standard, following an extensive review of formulations, rigorous raw material selection and strengthened controls across the supply chain.

With this portfolio-wide transition, the ‘No PFAS Added’ designation will no longer appear in individual product names, as all Lecta packaging paper ranges are now produced without added PFAS.

The commitment covers the company's full packaging portfolio, including flexible and rigid packaging, self-adhesive materials, labels and bags.

Lecta has also introduced new no PFAS added grease-resistant papers across its Creaset, Metalvac and Adestor ranges. Developed as replacements for conventional greaseproof papers used in food and food service applications, they combine strong technical performance with high processability, enabling an immediate transition to safer, more sustainable options.

This initiative is aligned with the European Union's Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR), which goes into effect on August 12, 2026, with extended transition periods for certain requirements. The regulation introduces a ban on PFAS in packaging under its restricted substances framework and places clear obligations on manufacturers to remove these substances from formulations while meeting strict recyclability, chemical safety, and circularity standards.

The shift toward solutions with no added PFAS is becoming a key factor in ensuring future regulatory compliance.

Similar regulatory momentum is emerging in markets outside the European Union, further underscoring the need for technically robust alternatives that support the gradual replacement of PFAS-based materials.

With its range of no PFAS added barrier papers, Lecta provides a scalable, industry-ready solution that allows converters and packagers to stay ahead of PPWR requirements and evolving global restrictions, ensuring regulatory compliance without sacrificing the quality standards the market demands.
