Actega, a manufacturer of specialty coatings, inks, adhesives, and sealing compounds for the print and packaging industry, has announced a partnership with Makro Labelling.

This collaborative agreement seeks to fast-track the development and supply of container application machines for Signite, a sustainable decoration technology highly acclaimed by brand owners and the labeling industry as one of the most innovative and forward-looking technologies recently developed.

Signite labels present a groundbreaking sustainable decoration solution that enables brands and converters to drastically cut down on waste while enhancing design flexibility, recyclability and opportunities for reuse. Actega Signite was honored last year with the label industry Global Awards' award for innovation. This prestigious industry recognition signifies that this technology potentially merges the quality standards demanded by brands and converters with numerous vital improvements in the product life cycle.

For the advantages of Signite labels to be fully exploited, customized applicator machines based on traditional pressure-sensitive labelers are necessary. Actega has developed and produced in-house low-speed applicators suitable for craft spirits, wines, craft beer and similar markets. The subsequent stage of machine development and market acceptance for Signite, though, necessitates the expertise and scale as well as future service and support of a forward-looking, dynamic original equipment manufacturer (OEM) label machine partner. Makro Labelling has thus agreed to cooperate on the design, manufacture and supply of low and medium-speed rotary-style labeling machines, initially focusing on models that have application speeds in the 100 to 400 containers per minute range.

'Our relationship with Makro has evolved in a highly engaging, dynamic and pragmatic manner since the initial introduction,' said Grant Schutte, vice president for Signite. 'We're eager to introduce the initial medium-speed rotary-style Signite applicators to early adopter brand owners later this year and we couldn't be happier to align with Makro Labelling in this endeavor.'

Makro Labelling was quick to recognize Signite as a potentially transformative labeling solution, providing brand owners with a tool to effectively achieve their sustainability goals. 'We are pleased to partner with Actega to broaden access to this technology through our labeling machine platforms and market presence. The current targets for applicators are right in Makro's sweet spot. And given our recent acquisition by Sidel Group, we are thrilled to see where Signite can go next,' stated Simone Marcantoni, managing director at Makro Labelling.
