Systems Labelling develop label solution for Sainsbury’s organic range

Systems Labelling has developed a home compostable label for the Sainsbury’s ‘SO’ range. From the initial brief, to national roll-out, took only eight weeks and involved a number of trials with Chingford Fruit Ltd, the retail giant’s organic fruit supplier.
‘Project management and a combined approach was key to the success of this initiative,’ commented Systems Labelling’s technical manager David Acott. The process was managed from the outset including:
1. Sourcing ‘virgin’ material
2. Conducting trials on in-house coating facility
3. A cycle of performance trials with Chingford Fruit including application, quality and overprinting tests
4. Full product trials to store
5. Roll-out to suppliers for the full SO range nationwide
Acott continued, ‘This was a great opportunity for Systems Labelling to demonstrate our expertise in developing and launching a label solution for the organic market.’
Chingford Fruit’s packaging buyer, Darren Brett, said, ‘Working in conjunction with Systems Labelling was a straightforward, no-nonsense experience. The project was handled professionally with the pre-agreed process adhered to throughout. I think we both benefited from pooling our technical expertise, indeed the result speaks for itself.’
The totally compostable self-adhesive label material was developed to comply with the key industry standards including: EN13432, Dincerto and OK Compost Scheme.
