Tadbik in Teradion, Israel, has installed a Drent Goebel Novaprint 680 press that combines both gravure and offset printing with UV drying stations and chilling rolls.  Two UV gravure units and six offset units deliver outstanding print quality on thin films used for shrink sleeves, in-mold labels (IML) and blow-mold labels (BML).
Tadbik and its daughter company, New Jersey-based Logotech, have used the press to serve clients around the world.
“The Goebel press represents an outstanding opportunity for us to adhere to the standards for top-quality printing that we have established over the years, while entering exciting markets such as shrink sleeves and in-mold labels,” says Eli Feder, chief technology officer for Tadbik.
With offset stations handling most of the colors, the 680-mm press is designed to facilitate short lead times and cost-effective short runs, Feder notes.  He adds that Goebel’s innovative sleeve insert technology allows Tadbik to quickly meet changing demands.  Tadbik is the first company in the world to install the sleeve inserts.
Feder says that the fast UV drying units, coupled with new ink technology and the extraordinary print quality of gravure, allows pressmen to create rich colors through thick, uniform ink laydown.  “You can really see it in the whites, metallic colors, and varnishes,” he notes.  “Many of our clients are also impressed the fact that new UV inks are much more environmentally friendly than the solvent-based inks we are used to seeing in gravure printing.  Especially in Europe – as well as in health and beauty aids, nutraceuticals, and health foods around the world – the environmental friendliness of every aspect of the packaging has become extremely important.”
Feder says Tadbik’s shrink sleeves, IML, and BML labels from the new press have become a familiar sight on dairy products, other foods and beverages, and an increasing number of health and beauty aid packages on shelves around the world.
