TLMI acknowledges winners of 30th Annual Awards Competition

Fifty converters from around the globe submitted 260 entries for this year’s TLMI Annual Awards Competition. Winners were acknowledged at the TLMI Annual Meeting held recently on the Big Island of Hawaii.
The Best of Show Award went to Lake Oswego, Oregon-based Taylor Made Labels for the company’s prime Symbion Wine label, which also won First Place in the wine and spirits category. Printed UV flexo, the Symbion label was printed using four color process with two spot colors, embossing, and two spot overprint varnishes.
Two Innovator Awards were presented for this year’s competition. The first went to Plano, Texas-based McDowell Label and Screen Printing for the company’s Back in Blaque tanning product label, which also won First Place in the Line and Screen/Tone Prime category. The application was a sleeve label that presented the unique challenge of printing a hot-foil silver and multidimensional effect that would maintain register upon shrinkage. The label was printed UV flexo, including foil stamping and screen doming. The other Innovator Award went to Oberschleissheim, Germany-based Schreiner Group GmbH & Company for their double-sided Plastoclear label with an integrated microchip, which also won First Place in the Industrial Tags and/or Systems category.
A total of 82 awards were presented in this year’s competition including one Best of Show, 56 First Place awards, 23 Second Place and two Innovator Awards. More than 20 percent of this year’s entries came from countries outside of North America including Australia, Spain, the Philippines, Scotland, Italy and Germany. A total of 29 awards were given to international entries.
