Having certified its Chain of Custody under the PEFC forestry management scheme, Torraspapel, part of the Lecta Group, is advancing its efforts towards the sustainable development of its operations by obtaining FSC Certification.

FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) Certification was created in the early 1990s with the aim of promoting environmentally responsible, socially beneficial and economically viable forestry management in woodlands the world over, with the support of various NGOs such as Greenpeace and the WWF. It takes into account not only the management of the timber obtained, but also embraces the social and economic use of the forests themselves.

Certifying the Chain of Custody guarantees that the wood used in the pulp and papermaking process comes from responsibly-managed forests.

One of the commitments assumed by Torraspapel in its 2006 Environmental Report consisted in obtaining FSC Chain of Custody accreditation for all of its production by 2008. This newly-obtained certification initially covers the Motril, Sant Joan, Sarri de Ter, Zaragoza and Algeciras coated paper mills, and represents an important step forward toward achieving this goal. Production from the remaining Torraspapel mills will be certified during 2008.

In addition to the FSC and PEFC Forestry Certifications, all of Torraspapel’s mills hold ISO 9001 quality certificates and ISO 14001 environmental certificates.
