World first claimed for PCL3 digital labels
The new SRA3 version of the multi print process PCL label range is claimed the first die cut label range to be approved for use on hp Indigo 3000 presses.
PCL3 digital labels, manufactured by Label Connections in the UK, are the result of extensive development work involving base material suppliers, press manufacturers and print trials.
Comments MD Lesley Turner, ‘there has been a tremendous amount of hard work involved in putting this range together - we could have just introduced an SRA3 range of die cut labels to add to our established A4 range (PCL), but the real challenge was to produce an innovative range with the same multi print capability as PCL (litho-Print, Copier, Laser) plus the surface compatibility that Indigo technology demanded.
We had to find a way of coupling very high quality base materials - paper and synthetics - with all the requirements for Indigo and digital dry toner (laser) technologies without losing the ability to conventionally litho print. An interesting task considering that most of the Indigo coatings, at the time the development work started, only lasted about three months, and using conventional litho inks produced some very strange results.’
The PCL3 digital range currently offers 15 label sizes, including rectangles, squares, circles, CD, DVD and a combination wine bottle format, produced in any of ten different materials (papers and polyesters). The materials are also offered as SRA3 sheets with 'dry edges' to achieve optimum feed performance on all press types.
The PCL (A4) range offers a further 80 label sizes which can be produced on an Indigo approved silk coated paper.
