Finat and Gipea announce congress and label competition

Self-adhesive label association Finat has announced the participation details of the 31st edition of its international labeling competition and the provisional program of its annual congress, which will take place at the Hilton Giardini Naxos in Taormina, Sicily, Italy, from 8-11 June 2011.

This year’s congress is organized in collaboration with the Italian label association Gipea. ‘We take pride in hosting this year’s congress in the beautiful setting of Mount Etna and the Ionian sea,’ said Alfredo Pollici, Gipea president, who will talk about the trends in the Italian label market. After two years, current Finat president Andrea Vimercati will hand over his presidency to a newly elected president during the congress. The full program will be made public soon.

Finat has for the past three years organized a congress logo competition. Several colleges and universities from the host country Italy were invited to submit entries from their students on the congress’s theme ‘Embrace Change, Enjoy Success’. More than 125 entries were received from six teaching establishments. Many entries focused on the fact that Taormina is located near the sea and included components of historic importance to the area.

The winner of this year’s contest, Claudio Vinci, said: ‘The element on which I worked can be found in the detail of the fountain which is located in the Piazza Duomo in Taormina. The sea horse, which is obviously a mythological allegory, is one of the most famous statues in the city. My design includes the silhouette of the horse against the background of the Sicilian sun with a curved line symbolically connecting the sun and the sea. Finally, the whole composition is held together by the congress slogan.’

Converters have still one and a half months to enter their best labels to compete in the annual Finat Label Competition, which showcases the best of self-adhesive label printing. Entries are expected before March 2011 and the awards are presented at the congress. Full detail on the competition rules and entry forms available here.
