HP introduces new automation capabilities

Today at Dscoop Edge Long Beach, alongside 1,000 print industry leaders who are a part of the global community, HP introduced new intelligent automation capabilities with the launch of HP Nio and new features for HP PrintOS, HP Site Flow and HP Brand Centre. The announcements coincide with Dscoop’s 20th anniversary, which celebrates digital print advancements over the last two decades and HP’s continued vision for the future of the industry.

'For two decades, HP and the Dscoop Edge community have been driving the transformation of digital print — raising the bar for quality, versatility, productivity, cost efficiency and sustainability,' said Haim Levit, senior vice president and division president, HP Industrial Print. 'This year at Dscoop we celebrate that legacy and embark on a new journey — one in which AI will revolutionize the world of print as we know it today — opening a new era where presses become autonomous and workflows are connected, automated and orchestrated from creation to delivery.'

To enhance operational efficiency and enable data integration across workflows, HP today unveiled HP Nio, a next-generation print industry AI agent that provides real-time insights and predictive analytics to optimize press and production performance. Powered by HP’s PrintOS, HP Nio empowers businesses with data-driven intelligence to maximize printing resources, drive productivity and unlock new avenues for growth.

'For the first time, AI advancements enable us to automate what was previously impossible, pushing the boundaries of automation in print,' said Joan Perez Pericot, vice president and general manager, HP Industrial Print Software & Solutions. 'Today’s announcements reflect our commitment to delivering on our vision to better automate and control the entire production floor end-to-end with less human intervention.'

HP Nio is a new chatbot that allows customers to ask questions about their print operations. It connects directly with HP PrintOS to deliver real-time data, production insights and on-demand knowledge all in one place. By using tools like Print Beat and the Knowledge Zone, HP Nio provides expert, print-specific guidance. Soon, it will also integrate with other HP PrintOS apps like HP Site Flow to support workflow automation and suggest smart, actionable next steps. Ultimately, HP Nio will act as an intelligent co-creator, enhancing the PrintOS experience and helping automate the entire print workflow from start to finish.

Introduced at drupa for HP Indigo presses, HP’s AI-enabled technology — including Automatic Alert Agent (AAA 2.0), Print Mode Preflight and PQ Maestro — are becoming core assets of HP Indigo’s AI capabilities, helping customers significantly increase print efficiency. These technologies are estimated to be commercially available in July 2025 as part of the press value pack release and will be showcased in an end-to-end intelligent print workflow at Dscoop Edge Long Beach.

HP continually invests in R&D to bring new capabilities to its HP PrintOS portfolio to deliver against its intelligent automation vision. Now, HP has further enhanced the HP PrintOS Creativity Power Pack with new features in HP SmartStream Designer, including support for Adobe CC2025, integration of Amazon Transparency codes and the addition of Bria.ai capabilities for generating AI images within variable data projects — empowering the creation of highly personalized and scalable campaigns.

HP Quality Power Pack is also available for HP Indigo 120K and HP Indigo 18K Digital Presses, enabling Printers and Converters to achieve color industry standards in minutes — fully automated, with zero human touch points to increase press uptime.

New features in HP Site Flow will also help printers and converters efficiently track orders for a more agile workflow, including the ability to get data on reprint jobs with flagged items table, automate complex workflows with custom production plans, connect 100+ carriers in a matter of days with ShipStation API Integration, and gain access to advanced intelligent picking and warehouse management capabilities by integrating with Mintsoft.

HP is improving and promoting HP Brand Centre, the platform designed to speed up onboarding and improve order tracking, by connecting brands to printers and converters efficiently. This solution enhances the overall efficiency to manage and share the brand’s product catalog, simplifying their onboarding process to a few days, and allowing users to manage invoicing, production and service agreements in one place.

Paschal Edwards, commercial manager of Crescent Print, said: 'Integrating with HP Site Flow and HP Brand Centre was a game-changer for our business. In just two weeks, we successfully onboarded our first brand and processed 40,000 net new orders — maximizing our peak season like never before. Today, HP also welcomes four new brands to the intelligent HP Brand Centre platform — Zazzle, Minted, Printerpix and Mixam – ready to reap the rewards of revenue growth in a competitive marketplace, faster operations, improved visibility and simplified management.

Available today, HP also announced the launch of HP Business Centre, providing customers with enhanced finance management capabilities, empowering them to make informed decisions and optimize their operations. The new technology enhances the HP PrintOS ecosystem with features including online supplies lifespan score monitoring, impressions performance tracking and comprehensive invoice tracking, driving efficiency and automation for organizations to deliver smarter printer operations.

At Dscoop Edge Long Beach, HP will demonstrate full production lines powered by the HP Indigo 120K and HP Indigo 18K HD digital presses, showcasing the wide versatility and productivity. These presses, with their AI-based technology, were released at drupa, and are already redefining the shift from analog to digital printing. Easy to operate, consistently high in quality and capable of producing hundreds of jobs each day, these presses are setting a new standard for nonstop digital printing excellence.

With the HP Indigo 200K Digital Press, HP will celebrate its milestone of 10 years in the flexible packaging market and more than 400 flexible packaging presses installed WW, and present the add-on slitter showcasing how converters can seamlessly use their HP Indigo 200K press to print pressure-sensitive labels, flexible packaging and shrink sleeves, slit on press and then convert the slitted roll on narrow web devices.

For the first time, HP will spotlight a live large-scale Web2Print experience printed on the HP Indigo 18K Digital Press, in collaboration with Canva and Printbox and supported by finishing partners Nobelus, Duplo and Z360. Visitors will be able to create and personalize posters, greeting cards, sports trading cards and even photo albums in real time.

On the show floor, attendees will have the opportunity to learn more about the high speed of the HP PageWide Advantage 2200 and the newly introduced HP PageWide T4250 HDR and HP PageWide T500 HD presses. These two presses are redefining growth, exploring new markets and building new business models across publishing, direct mail and commercial print.

The HP Indigo V12 Digital Press brings digital value to mid-to-high-volume label production. HP’s co-innovation with customers has driven increased technology stability and repeat investments, proving the value of digital adoption with a record of approximately 1 million meters a month, a great achievement accomplished only 3 months after the installation.

HP’s Sustainability Amplifier Program is expanding with a new CO2 calculator to help businesses measure and reduce their environmental impact. Since its launch in November 2024, over 1,000 industrial print and large format customers have engaged with the program and its tools. HP Indigo’s new CMYK+ and PIP+ consumables cut CO2 emission by up to 16 percent while also reducing waste, saving time and space, and maintaining high print quality.

Sprite Labels, a specialist manufacturer of custom labels and tags based in Nottingham, has invested in the i-Jet600 Label inkjet system from Inkjet Solutions. The new installation reaffirms the company’s dedication to delivering high-quality, efficient, customized labels for its clients. This investment marks another milestone in the long-standing relationship between Sprite Labels and Inkjet Solutions and reflects a shared ethos of trust, collaboration and customer-centric innovation.

The i-Jet600 Label has a Kyocera print head and offers Sprite Labels enhanced performance and more flexibility. The system supports monochrome print widths from 108mm to 556mm and CMYK widths up to 332mm. With a 600 x 600 DPI resolution and three grey levels, it achieves print speeds of 50 m/min (UV) and 75 m/min (aqueous) and up to 200 m/min when resolution is reduced in the print direction. Designed to retrofit existing printing and converting machinery seamlessly or integrate with new OEM systems, the i-Jet600 Label was installed onto a BGM rewind slitter with a die-cutting press, allowing Sprite Labels to upgrade production capability without replacing core equipment.

'Our decision to invest wasn’t just about equipment,' said Tony Katsouris, managing director at Sprite Labels. 'It was about aligning with the evolving needs of our customers. Over the years, we’ve made targeted investments and add-on equipment to existing presses to stay close to what our clients require – especially around variable data like barcoding and numbering.'

Domino Printing Sciences has launched Cx150i, its latest piezo inkjet (PIJ) printer, specifically developed for printing durable, large-area, high-resolution codes onto non-porous surfaces, including shelf-ready and secondary packaging.

Part of Domino's proven Cx-Series range of PIJ printers, the Cx150i has been designed for large-area printing using durable, UV-curable inks for excellent scratch and rub resistance. The high-resolution (up to 600 DPI) system can print exceptionally small characters of just 1 mm, making it suitable for small Asian character sets and dense 2D codes, including QR codes powered by GS1. A range of different inks is available, including options that adhere to international GMP standards and EuPIA compliance for safe use on secondary food packaging.

Compared to alternative printing methods, the Cx150i UV-curable ink set provides excellent quality, density and durability with minimal volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions.

The printer itself is designed to be as environmentally responsible as possible, with low-energy, LED curing lamps and an innovative ink pouch to minimise the creation of waste material. What’s more, unlike other technologies on the market, there is no need for regular cleaning or ink purging and no factory air requirement, further reducing waste and overall energy usage.

The Cx150i can be installed as a standalone unit or alongside Domino’s automated coding and vision systems as part of a closed-loop printing and verification technology.

The printer is Industry 4.0-ready, offering a broad range of connectivity options, including connection to third-party label creation packages, factory ERP systems, and a wide range of packaging and processing equipment.

An optional connection to Domino’s cloud-based services provides 24/7 visibility of the printer’s performance and utilization.

‘In today’s fast-paced, consumer-driven world, brands are increasingly looking to stand out and increase shelf appeal. This is driving a move away from plain, brown cardboard towards branded non-porous substrates for shelf-ready and display packaging,’ said David Edwards, product manager for PIJ at Domino. ‘With non-porous packaging, code durability can be an issue, particularly where food-contact materials are concerned. Century Printing and Packaging has invested in the first Durst 1,200 DPI KJet hybrid press in North America.

Century Printing and Packaging, located in South Carolina, has been a partner to their clients for nearly three decades. Owners and brothers, Ben and Neil Waldrop, deliver products primarily for food, beverage and chemical labels. To do this, they needed high-quality technology with high speed that would be capable of matching flexo type speed. They also wanted to break into new markets and needed a printer that would help them.

Neil Waldrop said: 'Durst was very supportive in all of our needs, and the options of what we can use the KJet for truly expands our capabilities. It was a very strong decision for us.'

The KJet hybrid labels printer combines ‘cylinder-based dual-servo’ flexo technology from Omet, with the robustness and reliability of a Durst 1,200 DPI RSCi digital printing engine, bringing power and automation to label and packaging applications.

'The best part of the KJet is the speed and repeatability,' continued Neil Waldrop. 'The changeover is fast and exact every time. The automatic loadings for the die station are very nice. The registration on it is just phenomenal. It’s literally just put it in, load it up and go. We're not fighting color, we're not chasing our tail on anything. It just does what it says it's supposed to.'

Steve Lynn, executive director, Durst North America, said: 'We worked very closely with Ben and Neil in the months leading up to Labelexpo, ensuring the KJet would be a perfect fit for them. We knew it would check every box they had and take their company into the future they were envisioning. After extensive analysis of available options in the market, we concluded a deal for the KJet at Labelexpo. Six months later, it is more than they expected it would be. This has been a thrilling journey, and we look forward to watching the KJet continue to grow CP&P.'

Ben Waldrop said: “I spend a lot of time on pricing models, proposals and quotes, and I've been pleasantly surprised at the ink cost. We've been able to reduce prices for quotes for competitive markets based on that cost and so that's been a great surprise.'

The KJet comes equipped with Durst Workflow and Analytics, which has been beneficial for the brothers. Neil Waldrop said, “The feedback we get, the data that is collected within the press, is impressive and gives us a lot of information. If something didn’t work out like we wanted it to or expected it to, we can dig into it. On the flip side, if it ran better, we could find out why and replicate it. We're constantly looking at data, getting feedback and figuring out how we can improve our systems. Having accurate, numerical and consistent data is very useful.'

'Durst has really made a commitment to us, for this to work for us, from a production, cost, data and support standpoint, making sure that it's integrated in our IT systems and our prepress systems. There has been a top-down focus from the Durst team to make this work, and it’s been a success,' said Ben Waldrop. 'The KJet has paid off. We have hired two more salespeople in the last month, and we are anticipating long-term growth.'

Dive in to learn why the company chose a digital label-finishing machine when it planned to diversify into digital printing.

Gayatri Labels, based in Hyderabad, India, is among the prominent label manufacturers specializing in PVC and paper-based self-adhesive labels for applications such as water bottles, soft drinks, cosmetics, and pharmaceuticals. Driving efficiency without dies

The VD330 eliminates the traditional requirement for dies or punches. The machine can start cutting immediately as soon as the user uploads the cutting layout file, saving time and cost associated with die manufacturing and setup. This reduces lead time and supports on-demand production, enabling converters to fulfill urgent orders within hours. With the first label cut being sellable, waste is drastically reduced compared to conventional die-cutting methods.

The machine has four precision cutting heads, delivering cutting speeds of up to 9 meters per minute. It supports label widths up to 320 mm and lengths up to 2000 mm, making it versatile for various digital and narrow-web flexo jobs.

With its integrated CCD camera, the VD330 can read job numbers or QR codes, enabling automatic job changeovers and cutting shape updates without operator input. This intelligent automation minimizes downtime and maximizes throughput, especially for converters managing multiple SKUs.

‘Beyond cutting, the VD330 also performs lamination for added durability and visual appeal, waste matrix removal for cleaner roll outputs, slitting into smaller rolls to suit various delivery formats and optional roll-to-sheet conversion for flexible production needs,’ notes Pardiwala.

The machine debuted at Labelexpo India 2024 and was ordered by Morya Labels, Star Offset, Angel Priint Tech, and Winways Digitech Multiservices.

General Inkjet Printing Technology (GIP) has confirmed it will be running live demonstrations of the Label Smart and Label Ultra series and promoting its Label Modular range of machines at Labelexpo Southeast Asia 2025 in Bangkok, Thailand.

GIP provides a comprehensive range of inkjet products and focuses on developing system software, producing core equipment, researching new materials and processes, and delivering tailored overall inkjet machines for various industries.

In Bangkok, GIP will present its iproduct lines, specifically developed for the label printing industry: the Label Smart series, the Label Ultra series and the Label Modular series.

The Label Smart series is designed to offer a low investment cost, requires minimal space, and features a CMYK plus double white color configuration for excellent efficiency and benefit.

Label Smart can use GIP’s eco-friendly UV ink to achieve excellent stability while ensuring environmental protection. The broad color gamut UV ink, vivid colors, and the Agfa color management system can accurately restore the Pantone database colors.

For those requiring top-tier results, the Label Ultra series offers a professional-grade digital label printing machine equipped with an upgraded 1,200 DPI high-definition printhead. It is designed to meet the ultimate needs for precision and stand out in a highly competitive market.

This machine features a high-flexibility feeding unit for an inkjet digital printing system. It is suitable for most materials for 110-330 mm wide label printing: film (PET, BOPP, PE, BOPA), label stock (PE label), pre-pressed materials (PET, ALU, PE), and paper, among others.

The imported high-precision industrial print head has a higher fire ignition frequency and service life, and the resolution is up to 1,200 × 1,200 DPI. The patch-tracking electronic eye achieves accurate secondary surprint and comprehensively solves the problem of printing registration.

Visitors will also be able to explore the maximum versatility of the Label Modular series, which supports up to eight color channels. Its modular production process integrates various finishing options like flexo printing, varnishing and foil-stamping, enabling one-stop printing while achieving high print quality thanks to its 1,200 DPI printhead.
