Herma joins RecyClass initiative to promote sustainability

Becomes a RecyClass member, along with other global players such as Aldi, BASF, Bayer, Ferrero, Nestlé, L’Oreal and Pepsico.

Herma has joined RecyClass as a platinum member. RecyClass initiative drives the recyclability of plastic packaging whilst at the same time promoting the traceability of plastic waste and recycled plastic content in Europe.

‘As a cross-industry initiative, RecyClass brings together players from the entire plastics value chain to optimize the recyclability of plastic packaging and the uptake of recycled plastics,’ explained Dr Stefan Kissling, head of adhesive coatings and special coatings. 'To this end, RecyClass not only offers certifications, but is also working on the development of scientific testing methods for innovative materials.'

The testing results are included in the ‘RecyClass Design for Recycling Guidelines and the free RecyClass Online Tool’. The latter provides manufacturers and users of plastic packaging with a quick assessment of the recyclability of their packaging and guidelines on how to improve it.

‘RecyClass conveys knowledge and creates both transparency and trust, thereby providing reliable orientation for all players. We are very proud to be an active member of the RecyClass community,’ emphasized Dr Kissling. ‘We are very interested in using the expertise of the RecyClass community to further develop our product portfolio and to use it to advise our customers. After all, our aspiration is to be truly sustainable. Finding ways to make materials even more resource-friendly and recyclable is essential to reach this goal.’

‘RecyClass is also pleased to have on board another member with profound application knowledge, both about the use of recyclable plastic films and film labels,’ emphasized Paolo Glerean, chairman of RecyClass. ‘Herma is a leading European player in the field of self-adhesive materials, we are extremely proud to see them engaged in the journey towards circular plastics.’
