Armor-IIMAK unveils sustainable wax ribbon ahead of Labelexpo Europe

Thermal transfer specialist claims 26 percent plastic waste reduction with new AWR XL product.

Armor-IIMAK has launched AWR XL, a wax ribbon, which delivers up to 26 percent less plastic waste and saves 830g of CO2 emissions per roll while offering up to 40 percent more printer uptime than traditional ribbons.

The France-based thermal transfer ribbon manufacturer said the product features a 100 percent solvent-free formulation and uses an ultra-thin 3.35μm PET film, which it describes as the thinnest in the industry. The new product offers significant reductions in packaging and core waste, which is a substantial benefit for companies seeking to align with growing environmental regulations and sustainability goals.

The ribbon is designed for flat-head printers and a wide range of applications, including logistics, retail and shipping. According to the company, it delivers a powerful combination of eco-conscious innovation and operational excellence, setting a new benchmark in the wax ribbon category.

'AWR XL is more than a product launch. It's a statement of our commitment to innovation and sustainability,' said Yohann Froment, senior vice president of marketing at Armor-IIMAK. 'We're proud to offer a ribbon that not only meets the performance expectations of our customers but also supports their environmental goals.'

The company said the extra-long roll length reduces roll changes and boosts productivity, resulting in lower operational costs and reduced storage and logistics needs. Despite its environmental advantages, the AWR XL maintains high-quality print performance while requiring less printhead energy.

AWR XL joins the company's existing wax ribbon portfolio alongside AWR 1 and AWR 8, strengthening its offering in what Armor-IIMAK describes as a traditionally price-driven market.

The product will be showcased at Labelexpo Europe 2025 in Barcelona this September at stand L44.
