Herma launches strong-adhesion linerless material

Linerless Plus 400 uses multi-layer 62Dps adhesive to eliminate adhesive-free zones.

Herma has launched Linerless Plus 400, a silicone-coated linerless label material using its multi-layer 62Dps pressure-sensitive adhesive, designed to overcome the adhesion limitations that have restricted linerless labels in demanding applications such as logistics and dispatch on rough cardboard surfaces.

According to Herma, conventional linerless materials typically require adhesive-free zones to prevent adhesive bleed and buildup on cutting mechanisms during roll converting and label cutting. The two-layer structure of the 62Dps adhesive prevents bleed, allowing full-surface adhesive application without adhesive-free zones and delivering higher initial and final adhesion alongside reliable performance at low temperatures.

The absence of adhesive-free zones also removes the need for time-consuming pre-definition of adhesive areas on rolls, offers greater layout flexibility and extends cleaning intervals on linerless printers by reducing contamination of cutting mechanisms. The material is compatible with all standard linerless label printers without additional investment.

The 62Dps adhesive has been in commercial use for many years across HERMA's conventional label materials, giving converters and end users a documented performance reference without the need for extensive new adhesion testing.

Herma said the launch follows the earlier introduction of its silicone-free InNo-Liner and addresses a gap for applications where hot-melt pressure-sensitive adhesive linerless designs deliver unsatisfactory results. The PPWR's focus on waste reduction and resource conservation is cited as a further driver for linerless adoption. Linerless Plus 400 is coated on a 1,000 mm web width with a minimum order quantity of 2,000 sqm.

'The new material was developed specifically as a solution for applications where conventional linerless designs using hot-melt pressure-sensitive adhesives do not deliver satisfactory results,' said Markus Mateescu, head of silicone development at Herma.
