Sihl launches dual-function security label material

New grade combines RFID shielding with a metal-detectable layer in one substrate.

Sihl has launched Enduro MD Shield, a label material that combines RFID and NFC signal blocking with a metal-detectable inner layer, targeting converters serving food processing, pharmaceutical, financial and public sector applications.

The material shields transponder resonance circuits, reducing contactless reading range from several centimeters to a few millimeters. Tests at 13.56 MHz confirmed that RFID chips protected by the shield core cannot be read, making it suited to high-security applications including government, finance and aerospace.

The metal-detectable layer enables reliable identification of metal fragments and foreign bodies during food production, supporting compliance in industrial bakeries, meat processing, dairy, cooked meals and pet food manufacturing. A declaration of compliance for food contact is available.

Enduro MD Shield is available in grammages from 155 gsm to 240 gsm and carries FSC Mix Credit certification. Specialist grades include a phenol-free thermal direct option and an OBA-free surface compatible with security inks visible under UV light.
