Short-run printed packaging; a supermarket odyssey – highlights

Short-run printed packaging; a supermarket odyssey – highlights
I’m going to carry on with my search for this summer’s themed short-run printed packaging throughout the London 2012 Paralympic Games, rounding off with a look at the examples I get to see during my time in the US for Labelexpo Americas.

I’ll also be naming my favorite packaging seen this summer shortly, picking my top examples in a number of "award" categories. These "awards" are just for fun, and in no way endorsed by Package Print Worldwide or parent Tarsus. There are no prizes either, just my personal recognition of the different packaging types that have caught my eye this summer.

In the meantime, I’ve compiled a gallery of what I’ve seen so far, highlighting the volume and diversity of products that have used events like the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and London 2012 Olympic Games to capture the attention and imagination of consumers with themed packaging.

As a result, the Union Flag has been used heavily in UK stores, and has been imagined in a variety of styles and colors on printed packaging for products as diverse as flour and tea, to cakes and sandwiches.

You can help me compile this unscientific “study” of short-run printed packaging as seen by consumers on store shelves this summer. Just snap a picture on your phone's camera and share it using your own Twitter account, mentioning @D_Pittman_PPW and using #packageprinting.

If you're not on Twitter, please email pictures to [email protected] so I can see what you see on the shelf this summer when it comes to themed short-run printed packaging.
