Short-run printed packaging; a supermarket odyssey – part 14

Short-run printed packaging; a supermarket odyssey – part 14
I’d said to myself that now autumn has arrived in the UK, and I’d been able to report back on the packaging I’d seen while traveling to the US, that I’d stop looking for summer themed packaging, making my wife happy that we could go shopping without me needing a camera.

However, I found myself snapping the below picture of Sugar Puffs packaging this weekend.

Sugar Puffs are a cereal brand in the UK, and have featured the Honey Monster character as the brand’s mascot since the 1970s.

Available on stores shelves this summer have been Party Puffs, a variant on traditional Sugar Puffs with added red, white and blue meringue balls. The cereal box features Honey Monster wearing a bearskin, a tall fur cap as worn by Foot Guards performing ceremonial and security duties around London.

Party Puffs have been on sale to tie-in with the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebration, and the carton also features a Union Flag decoration and the likeness of Buckingham Palace, the official Queen’s residence in London.

I promise that this is my last photo regarding themed packaging related to events in the UK this summer, but having already been shopping, I can tell you that Christmas products are already available on the shelf, with carton and flexible packaging featuring Santa Claus available to buy.

As such, it won’t be long before I start blogging on this winter’s printed packaging, so check back really soon for the start of that blog series.
