Short-run printed packaging; a supermarket odyssey – part 6

Short-run printed packaging; a supermarket odyssey – part 6
What is notable is the number of products on the shelf that mimic the themed packaging they are in this summer.

Thorntons had its Union Flag chocolate plaque a few weeks back, and pictured below:

There's a wave of London 2012 Olympic products now on the shelf following the same decoration trend.

What can be seen are mostly sweets, as you can see below:

With the Wimbledon tennis championships now over, and another year of hurt for Britain despite the printed packaging market's best efforts, the focus moves on to the London 2012 Olympic Games.

There are already some good examples of brands looking to capitalize on the event. So far confectionery giant Cadbury and P&G's portfolio of products are the chief torchbearers for the Olympic movement through printed packaging.

I expect to see many more though, both direct and indirect due to strict brand and marketing rules laid down by Olympic organizers. The London 2012 Olympic Games have been seven years in the making, and we're now on the homestretch before July 27.

I must thank my sister Jennifer and aunt Gillian who've been hunting out printed packaging in their local supermarkets.
