Short-run printed packaging; a supermarket odyssey – part 9.5

Short-run printed packaging; a supermarket odyssey – part 9.5
While I’ve not been able to get down to my local supermarket recently, others have noted some excellent examples of themed short-run printed packaging hitting store shelves as the London 2012 Olympics edge closer.

My sister shops in supermarket chain Tesco, so she was able to spot many products on her local store’s shelves.

This included British Beef and Yorkshire pudding wraps in Union Flag printed cartons, and mini pork pies in similar flexible packaging.

Like the Tesco hog roast sausage rolls seen earlier in this "study", these products take typically British foods and combine them with themed packaging to make them stand out on the shelf, and capture the eye and imagination of patriotic consumers.

Crisp firm Pringles has also given its tubes a Union Flag makeover, using red, white and blue to capitalize on support for Team GB in the coming weeks.

You can help me compile this unscientific “study” of short-run printed packaging as seen by consumers on store shelves this summer. Just snap a picture on your phone's camera and share it using your own Twitter account, mentioning @D_Pittman_PPW and using #packageprinting.

If you're not on Twitter, please email pictures to [email protected] so I can see what you see on the shelf this summer when it comes to themed short-run printed packaging.
