Herma customizes robotic labeling cell for pharma

The new 211R HC autoinjector system labels up to 15 products per minute.

Herma has configured its 211R HC robotic labeling cell for a pharmaceutical customer project involving autoinjectors, demonstrating how the standardized platform can be adapted for high-mix, low-volume pharmaceutical labeling applications with complex product geometries.

The configuration centers on a Stäubli TS2-100 SCARA robot, a buffer station and a separate transport and rotation unit, all using Schunk gripping technology. The Scara robot removes unlabeled autoinjectors from trays and places them in the buffer station, where a transport and rotation unit guides each product to a Herma 500 applicator and rotates it precisely during labeling. Parallel operation of robot and applicator achieves throughput of up to 15 products per minute.

An integrated camera system monitors labeling position, product alignment and applied markings throughout the process, with non-conforming products automatically detected and diverted. Products are fed and removed via a drawer system without opening the safety doors during operation, supporting low-interruption workflows and operator safety.

HERMA said the 211R HC platform can integrate robotics components from multiple suppliers depending on customer requirements, with Fanuc and Weiss Robotics components used in other projects alongside the current Stäubli and Schunk configuration.

Herma generated revenue of 447m EUR in fiscal year 2025 across its adhesive materials, labels and labeling machines divisions.
