Baker Labels expands in Brentwood

Baker Labels has been in its state-of-the-art factory in Brentwood, Essex, since it moved from Walthamstow in 2011. They company has been rapidly increasing production capacity, turnover and staff recruitment ever since.

As part of his continued investment in the company, managing director Steve Baker saw the vacant neighboring warehouse as an opportunity and has plans for the extra 10,000-square feet. ‘It’s been seven years since we moved to Brentwood and it’s been an incredibly exciting period in our history with year on year very positive investment and growth. We look forward to continuing this trend so need more space and being next door, it was a very easy decision,’ said Steve Baker, managing director.

The new building will become home to the materials division of Baker Labels. The plan is to be installed there by the end of April, leaving the current materials warehouse available for further equipment investment and the possibility of branching into new, exciting areas of print.

Baker Labels continues to invest in the latest technology to keep improving efficiency and performance. The newest addition to its factory was a new auto set Vectra SGTR glueless turret rewinder from AB Graphics that was delivered on 20 February. The Vectra SGTR holds the substrate to the cores at the start of a new roll without stopping or slowing down the converting equipment. In addition, it is fitted with a print and apply label applicator to close the finished roll with a label.

‘The demand for faster turn around and higher output is key to our long-term success and equipment like this helps to make it a bit easier,’ Baker said. ‘Reinvesting the profits in equipment and staff training has and will always be our main priority. This is a great piece of kit which the guys are already very comfortable with and are impressed with the ease of set-up.’
