Field announces major investment at Scottish label printer

Field Group, a Chesapeake Company and a leading European packaging manufacturer, has announced a major investment program at its label operation in Scotland, UK, Field Lithoprint. The investment will strengthen Field Lithoprint’s position as a leading Scottish supplier of printed wet applied labels and commercial print.
As part of the investment programmed, Field Lithoprint will relocate to new premises close to the existing site at Hillington Park, Glasgow. The new facility is planned to be fully operational by early 2006. The objective of this investment and relocation programmed has been to support the operation’s future growth plans as well as the ability to offer unrivalled levels of service and support to its customers. The operation will benefit from the installation of new generation machinery including an 8-colour U.V. litho press as well as material handling equipment. This will be complemented by the introduction of a new management information system, which will improve order handling and information flow. The funding for this redevelopment was provided by Regional Selective Assistance from the Scottish Executive as well as Lithoprint’s ultimate parent company, Chesapeake Corporation.
James Clark, general manager, Lithoprint, explained: ‘The layout of the factory’s production area will be radically changed to reflect the latest manufacturing flow techniques. A new printing press will be installed as well as material handling equipment. These developments will be underpinned by ongoing employee development.
‘We have identified a need for a local leader in quality label production. We believe that it is an ideal time to offer sector leadership through a strong, stable supplier who has the scale and scope to meet the exacting service levels for both labels and commercial print. Lithoprint currently employs some 87 people but this will be increased as investment takes place.’
