Parkside develops compostable packaging for snack food start-up

UK packaging specialist Parkside has developed sustainable packaging for UK-based start-up Wallaroo and its new range of healthy snacks for children.

Wallaroo's healthy snack food packaging is part of Parkside's Pack2Nature portfolio

Manufactured with bio-based materials, the packaging has been engineered to provide ‘excellent’ moisture and oxygen barriers to extend shelf life. Further, the new packs are home compostable and designed to break down within 26 weeks, gaining accreditation from TUV (formerly Vincotte).

Aimed at the environmentally conscious consumer, the packaging was developed to support Wallaroo's sustainable and ethical brand values. Renowned illustrator Steven Simpson came on board with the project and in collaboration with Parkside Graphic Services helped to achieve Wallaroo’s vision on a challenging paper substrate utilizing specialist compostable inks.

Wallaroo co-founder Abhisek Kanoi said: ‘Wallaroo is on a mission to encourage children to make better food choices by questioning where their food comes from, what it is made of and its impact on the environment. This ethos stretches from product to packaging and was a key reason for choosing to work with Parkside. Its compostable solutions are truly sustainable and help to extend product shelf life and minimise food waste.’

The Wallaroo Foods range is part of Parkside’s expanding Park2Nature portfolio of compostable packaging options.

Paula Birch, sales director at Parkside, said: ‘This has been one of our most exciting projects in recent times, working with an amazing start-up company and creating a wonderfully eco-friendly product.’
