Currently, Altana operates eight subsidiaries, 18 production facilities and 19 laboratories in the US. With more than 1,000 employees in the US, the company generated sales of around 290 million EUR, or 16 percent of its entire global business in 2013.

BYK Additives & Instruments is a supplier of additives and measuring instruments. It has production sites in Wesel, Kempen, Moosburg and Schkopau in Germany, Deventer and Denekamp in the Netherlands, Widnes in the UK, Wallingford, Gonzales and Louisville in the US, and Tongling in China.

Dirk Plas, president of BYK USA, said: ‘This expansion enables us to efficiently service our US customers with an enhanced portfolio of BYK additives manufactured in a facility built to the highest standards of safety.

‘We are fully committed to investing in our customers’ future and to growing our business.’

The 50 million USD investment in the state-of-the-art plant more than doubles production capacity in the US, and increases worldwide supply chain security for its additives.

Dr Matthias L. Wolfgruber, chief executive officer of Altana, said: ‘Today marks a very important moment in Altana’s growth strategy.

‘With this expanded facility we will accelerate our growth in North America.’
