McCourt Label has upgraded to a 7-color Domino N610i

The flexo-based label printing business, located in Lewis Run, Pennsylvania, moved into digital printing two years ago when it chose a 5-color Domino N610i as its very first digital press. Since then, Domino has introduced a 7-color version (CMYKOV + W) of the N610i, which provides an expanded color gamut, achieving over 90 percent of the Pantone range.

‘The expanded gamut has enabled us to print more colors with greater accuracy,’ said Dave Ferguson, president at McCourt Label. ‘Colors are easier to achieve with the expanded gamut and therefore we are more efficient on press with make-ready and run times.’

McCourt Label has already seen significant productivity gains on existing jobs.

‘In upgrading to the 7-color press, we are able to print more jobs on the Domino because we are not limited by the colors only achievable with four-color process,’ Ferguson said. ‘Previously, a lot of time was spent trying to match a color that just wasn’t possible with 4-color process.’

While the Domino N610i serves as a complimentary technology to its flexo-based label printing business, having the digital technology provides increased capacity. ‘Since the color gamut is expanded dramatically, we are able to move even more jobs from our flexo presses to the Domino,’ Ferguson said.
