Typerite installs new slitting machine

Typerite, Northern Ireland’s sole producer of thermal transfer ribbons, has commissioned a new slitting machine to meet increasing demand from new markets.

The slitting machine, Typerite’s sixth, runs at 400m/min and has a semi-automatic leader table

The slitting machine from Germany's Ihle Maschinenbau runs at 400m/min and has a semi-automatic leader table. The machine, Typerite's sixth slitter, has the capacity to slit over one million meters per week.

Typerite supplies a rage of products, from thermal transfer and MICR ribbons to hot and cold stamping foils, and serves markets from aerospace and automotive, to chemicals, paint, food and signage. It has diversified further into the pharmaceutical industry and made an extensive investment in a cleanroom at its Warrenpoint factory.

The company generates 90 percent of its turnover from outside of Northern Ireland, with 70 percent of its business coming from almost 50 markets beyond the British Isles.

‘We’re now a heavily mechanized business for the production of very broad range of thermal transfer ribbons,’ said Typerite director Michael Barlow. ‘Most of the team have been with us for many years and are now highly skilled and committed to the business.’
