Libbs, a Brazilian pharmaceutical company, has started using Atlantic Zeizer’s Medtracker software in a pilot project that ensures complete traceability of pharmaceuticals across the whole logistics chain compliant to the country’s legislation for the first time

From the end of 2016, the serialization of pharmaceuticals will become obligatory in Brazil, following introduction in stages over the next two years.

Initiated in late 2014, Libbs worked with Rastreabilidade Brasil as system integrator for the pilot project. Rastreabilidade Brasil provided the complete implementation of the required track and trace hardware and software systems as well as the operation of the high-level database.

In addition to Atlantic Zeiser, inspection system expert Scanware Electronic contributed to the project in order to deliver a turnkey serialization system for a packaging line.

Atlantic Zeiser’s Medtracker software ensures versatile, audit-proof generation, distribution, printing, aggregation and tracking of codes according to all current international regulations. The software allows for track and trace across parts of a line or across complete lines, production facilities (factory level), and even across a group of companies (enterprise level).

Currently, Atlantic Zeiser is working on more retrofits in Libbs’ production facility near São Paulo, where 12 lines must be ready for serialization by late 2016.

‘The requirements at Libbs and in the Brazilian market in general are very demanding,’ said Stefan Öing, head of the track and trace software division at Atlantic Zeiser. ‘They stipulate that for each pharmaceutical packaging, every status change must be recorded – up until it is sold in a pharmacy. Medtracker is ideally suited for this task.’
