Cosmo Films increases production capacity of export unit

Cosmo Film has installed two additional lines in its export oriented unit (EOU) plant in Shendra, India, and has now moved into the second phase of its expansion program.

The first addition is a 2m-wide chemical coating line, to which the company intends to shift all its top of the line coated products such as face stock for self-adhesive labels, velvet and scuff free lamination films and high barrier films. A line camera has also been installed to detect any manufacturing defects during production. With this latest addition, Cosmo Films now houses five chemical coating lines, taking the annual coating capacity of the company to 10,000 tonnes. The second addition is a 2.4m-wide metallizer, which augments the company’s capability to produce a complete range of metallized films, including high barrier metallized films. This addition will take the annual metallizing capacity of the company to 15,000 tonnes.

These additions in the EOU, coupled with the existing extrusion coating lines, will complement the 8.7 meter BOPP line, making Shendra EOU self-sufficient. These additional investments have been made in the wake of the buoyant response received by the company while servicing all its export customers from the BRC-certified EOU. Further, the development signifies that the EOU can now manufacture the entire gamut of speciality films offered by the company for packaging, label and lamination applications, all under one roof.

S Satish, global head of sales and marketing at Cosmo Films, said: ‘We are excited by these new additions in Shendra. The plant’s self-sufficiency will have a significant impact on the turnaround times and productivity of our value added films, thus improving our service standards for global customers.’

The Shendra facility is committed to sustainability and has been designed to maximize the usage of natural light, leading to significant energy saving. The plant also has a sophisticated ETP which ensures zero discharge of effluents. The products coming out of the plant conform to all global compliance standards.
