Heidelberg demos carton kit to global audience at Packaging Days event

Heidelberg has showcased new die-cutting and folding carton gluing equipment to visitors from around the world at a recent Packaging Days event, including the Promatrix 106 CS which performs die-cutting and embossing at a speed of 8,000sph.

With the Diana Smart 55 and Diana Smart 80 folding carton gluing machines, Heidelberg has developed a new platform for medium volumes in the production of straightline and lockbottom cartons

More than 200 visitors from Africa, Europe, South America, China, India, Korea, Russia and the Middle East attended the Packaging Days event towards the end of 2014 held at Heidelberg’s Wiesloch-Walldorf plant.

The Promatrix 106 CS is designed for short to medium production volumes and offers a wide range of standard features, extremely user-friendly operation and an attractive price-performance ratio, Heidelberg said.

As well as the Promatrix 106 CS, Heidelberg showed the new Diana Smart 55 and Diana Smart 80 folding carton gluing machines, which are aimed at companies that manufacture folding cartons and at all-rounders that need optimum quality and reliability for short to medium-sized runs.

Using the example of an end-to-end job for a fictitious outdoors store, Heidelberg staged a live demonstration during the Packaging Days event to show visitors the production process for invitation cards, stand-up displays, posters, folding cartons and CD jackets. A Speedmaster CD 102 press was used to show the rapid changeover from the production of CD packaging on card to label production on lightweight paper.

Dr Frank Schaum, who is responsible for post-press equipment at Heidelberg, said: ‘In the medium term, we are going to continue to expand the product portfolio in die cutting and folding carton gluing machines.

‘The new Postpress Packaging products were extremely well received by customers and we were able to demonstrate efficient folding carton production, including the accompanying service offerings.’
