Heidelberg extends training to refugees
Heidelberg is to welcome five young refugees in November as part of its 2016 intake of trainees, with the aim of having them progress at the printing equipment manufacturer.

The young refugees will come from Syria, Afghanistan and Nigeria, and join the dozen future mechatronics engineers who are undergoing a special form of training at the company’s Wiesloch-Walldorf and Brandenburg sites. The refugees will be based at the Heidelberg site in Wiesloch-Walldorf to receive practical training, as well as attending college for at least two days a week. One of these days is earmarked for intensive German classes.
Provided they perform well, Heidelberg has said the five young refugees have ‘a real chance’ of being able to start a traditional training course at Heidelberg as a mechatronics engineer, industrial engineer, print media technologist or warehouse operator.
90 trainees started across four Heidelberg sites in Germany on September 1, as reported here.
