Mitsuo Komiyama, past president of JFLP and founder of MSP, passes away
Mitsuo Komiyama passed away on November 14 at the age of 74. He was a past president of the Japanese label association, founded of one of Japan's leading label converters, and a champion of globalization.
Komiyama was born in Tokyo in 1942 and joined the Fuji Shikou Co (currently Lintec Corporation) in 1965. After working in Fuji Shikou's sales department, he established Mimasu Seal Printing in 1981 which became MSP Incorporated in 2005. He served as MSP’s CEO until 2013. He expanded his business overseas in the Philippines and Thailand.
He served as board member for the Japanese label association JFLP from 1997, and was president from 2005 to 2015. He was a powerful contributor to the activities of the JFLP, particularly its response to environmental issues and globalization.
He was instrumental in the JFLP joining the worldwide L9 group to promote the Japanese label industry. In 2012, he hosted the meeting in Japan with fifteen delegates which established the L9 with the other global label associations.
In 2012, he received the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Rosette, in recognition of his significant contributions to the Japanese and global label industry. He also received the Label Industry Lifetime Special Recognition Award in the same year.
