Derprosa has been restructured under a new management team during the period of ownership by 3i Group, Baring Private Equity and other minority shareholders, and has transitioned into a business focused on international expansion and the development of high margin products.

As an example, it has moved into the US by opening its first warehouse in Newark, New Jersey, which joined other warehouses in France, Italy, Germany, the UK and Mexico.

Today, Derprosa Film is a worldwide supplier of specialty films for graphic arts applications for luxury packaging and is a leading supplier of films for flexible packaging converters in Spain.

Taghleef Industries recently announced details of an expansion to its European film manufacturing capacity with the upgrade of an 8.2 tonne BOPP line to five-layers and an increase of five-layer film capacity to a total of 60,000 tonnes each year.

The transaction has been approved by the board of directors at both Taghleef Industries and Derprosa Film.

Detlef Schuhmann, chief executive officer of Ti Group, said: ‘Once part of the Ti Group, Derprosa Film will have access to resources deployed on all continents and will be able to accelerate the penetration of a set of very innovative technologies.’

Maite Ballester, managing director of 3i Spain, added: ‘We have worked with the management team to accelerate the business by focusing on product development and entering new markets. In the last four years alone, the company has developed and launched more than 14 products and it also has a strong pipeline of products to launch.

‘We are pleased to have supported the business and look forward to seeing the company’s continued growth.’
