Checkpoint Systems unveils security label for shoe source tagging

Checkpoint Systems, a global supplier of shrink management, merchandise visibility and apparel labeling options for the retail industry, has introduced a small security label that provides an additional level of security for all retail outlets selling shoes.

Smaller than existing shoe labels, the 2815 Enhanced Performance (EP) Shoe Label is integrated into footwear during the shoe manufacturing process. It is said to offer enhanced detection and deactivation performance, meaning a significant reduction in false alarms and enabling retailers to adjust their approach policies accordingly.

Checkpoint worked closely with shoe manufacturers to design the label and enable it to sustain greater processing tolerance during the manufacturing process, as well as allow high-speed integration and melding temperatures so it can be easily applied without compromising the performance in stores.

Farrokh Abadi, president and chief operating officer shrink management solutions, Checkpoint Systems, said: ‘We are delighted to introduce our newest shoe label, which we designed together with shoe manufacturers and retailers. This slender, high-performing solution not only helps retailers reduce theft, but also improves availability on store shelves, increasing customer satisfaction.’

The company has source-tagged more than one billion shoes with Radio Frequency (RF) Electronic Article Surveillance (EAS) labels in the last five years to help retailers in the fight against shrink.

Shoes are difficult to protect and display at the same time, making them a high-risk theft item. According to the most recent Global Retail Theft Barometer, shrink rates for footwear increased year over year to 0.99 percent globally and 0.92 percent in Europe.
