DG press MachineS has launched a new web-fed offset press for package printing applications.

Thallo has been designed by DG press MachineS, a sister company of DG press ServiceS, to maximize sleeve technology in the package printing market.

Sleeve technology in offset allows printers to work with variable sizes, and allows sizes to be easily changed without having to completely change the unit or cassette said DG press MachineS, and is a recognized way of cost-effectively printing different repeat lengths.

The development of the Thallo includes various innovations to address the challenges and limitations that it said has held back mainstream use of web offset by package printers. DG press MachineS said the Thallo combines sleeve offset technology with the right price/performance ratio.

It added that more than 10 years of experience with manufacturing and refurbishing sleeve-type offset presses, in addition to feedback from end-users in the field, has led to the decision of taking sleeve technology in offset to the next level.

A concept printing deck will be showcased at Labelexpo 2013 in Brussels, with the aim of showing the benefits to package printers currently using the flexo and rotogravure processes.

DG press MachineS director Peter Kloppers said: 'Many years of continuous dialogue between us and end-users has initiated the need for an improved concept.

'There is an incredible potential for offset in packaging, but a limited amount of feasible offerings on the market.'
