Invista introduces Polyclear Conserve PET

Invista, an integrated fibers and polymers producer, has formulated Polyclear Conserve PET, a polyester polymer that contains up to 20 percent post-consumer recycled PET.

‘Polyclear Conserve PET reduces potential contamination issues because it is not a simple blend of reground post-consumer recycled PET flake combined with virgin PET resin,’ said Dwight Marshall, marketing manager for Invista. ‘Our process utilizes bottle-grade post-consumer recycled PET flake and reduces it back to its pre-polymer feedstock. We then repolymerize the polymer so it processes like a virgin PET polymer.’

Polyclear Conserve PET is suitable for usage in container applications including bottled water, carbonated soft drinks, juices, sports drinks, teas, food products and household goods and cleaners. This packaging polymer also complies with the Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act for certain food contact applications.

‘Research is ongoing to increase the level of post-consumer recycled PET content in Polyclear Conserve PET,’ Marshall said. ‘At Invista, we continue to invest in research and product development to further improve our products’ environmental impact.’

Polyclear Conserve PET can be reclaimed in available PET recycling chains with PET recycling programs, and can be reprocessed into the post-consumer PET recycling stream multiple times.
