The non-silicone coating is said to have performance characteristics that match or exceed the performance of solvent based products. It also has environmental attributes that enable manufacturers to get ahead of market expectations for green practices and products.

‘Suncryl HP 114 is the result of intensive development to deliver a next-generation release coating for the film tape industry,’ said Tim Saddow, global marketing manager for Tapes and Adhesives at Omnova Solutions.

‘All our tests show performance gains over existing solvent-based solutions currently available. Beyond the improvements in adhesion to film substrates, Suncryl HP 114 has excellent aging properties that deliver in-process benefits, such as low high-speed unwind, that simplify the manufacturer’s path to market.’

Saddow added: ‘The introduction of Suncryl HP 114 also represents a new development for those who feel they have had to choose between environmental benefits and product performance. Water-based Suncryl HP 114 delivers on both counts with no-VOCs, low-odor, no formaldehyde, and performance that matches or beats the industry standard solvent-borne coatings.’

‘This makes the switch from solvent-based coatings a real possibility for many in the industry who have been searching for an alternative to the costs and regulatory requirements that come with production using solvent-borne release coatings, especially for those who have cautiously avoided water-based solutions because of performance concerns,’ concluded Saddow.

Omnova is also offering a systematized platform for tape manufacturers to reach an application-specific performance profile in less time. The company’s 'Dial-In' system provides formulated coat-ready options with tight and loose binding properties that can be blended at the manufacturer’s site. This approach can speed product development and assist transition from one tape family to the next during manufacturing.

‘We’ve looked beyond our customer’s need for coatings to understand the demands of successful commercialization, especially during the final stages of development,’ said Saddow. ‘The reliance on a single formula has pitfalls that we want customers to avoid. By delivering a system for dialing-in the right amount of release, our customers can get to market faster with better results.’
