Roland DG has released the VersaUV LEC-300, a UV inkjet printer/cutter which the company claims to be a world first. The 30” LEC-300 prints CMYK, white and clear coat, a combination which can be used to create special effects or a finishing touch for ‘luxurious, customized’ graphics.

With the VersaUV, professionals can produce realistic textures and patterns such as fake leather and crocodile skin. Furthermore, the machine can layer clear coat for glossy area highlights, 3D doming and even Braille – all in one workflow. The VersaUV allows for applications ranging from high-end small-lot production to packaging comps, press proofs and product prototypes.

VersaUV comes with VersaWorks, Roland’s own color management software RIP, which supports Roland’s Intelligent Pass Control technology for image quality and the Roland Color System for precision spot color matching. In a new development, VersaWorks allows control of up to four Roland printers from one computer. VersaWorks also includes the ability to print swatch books and color charts, powerful reference tools that make communication with clients easier. With VersaWorks, users get the RolandNet auto update service for automatic access to updated VersaWorks versions and profiles. VersaWorks supports Windows Vista and 2000/XP.
