Roller cleaning tape from Teknek

Edge bleed, or adhesive build up on press rollers is a common challenge for print operators. The adhesive from the label stock material is squeezed out at the edge of the films and then builds up on the idle rollers causing transfer, mis-registration and web breaks. A costly stop in production is required to clean the rollers and then start again.

Teknek is introducing a new product to the market to try and eliminate this build up. Roll Cleaning Tape (RCT) is a high temperature, low tack adhesive on a white polyester carrier film. The tape is attached to the top of the reel with the adhesive in the up position. The web is then processed as normal. The tape removes any dust or debris on the rollers before it has a chance to build up and cause a problem.

If this is carried out each time a new reel of material is loaded onto the press then it will greatly reduce the build up of material on the rollers. Because of the high temperature adhesive it can also clean roller is ovens and under UV lights without having to wait until the system has cooled down.

Samples of the RCT will be available at Labelexpo Americas 2006 on booth number 6416.
