Sappi Guard product line extended

Sappi has updated its Guard product line, with new paper-based packaging that offers grease and mineral oil barriers, and also prevents the ingress of oxygen and water vapor.

Working with Belgian chocolate producer Delafaille, Sappi has extended this product line with paper-based packaging that has grease and mineral oil barriers, and also prevents the ingress of oxygen and water vapor

Sappi Guard was introduced four years ago as a specialty paper with a mineral oil barrier integrated directly in the paper, as well as including heat sealing properties. Intended for both outer and inner packaging, its original application was dry foodstuffs such as pasta, rice, cereals, pudding powder, tea and more. Heat sealing properties make these recyclable packaging materials an alternative to PE packaging, Sappi explained, which offers good sealing properties but does not have any mineral oil barrier.

Working with Belgian chocolate producer Delafaille, Sappi has extended this product line with paper-based packaging that has grease and mineral oil barriers, and also prevents the ingress of oxygen and water vapor. Delafaille is used it for the company’s luxury Amusette chocolate brand. The brand needed a paper type that could be used with no additional foil lamination or adhesive, minimizing the production costs involved.

This new product is presented at interpack 2017, where Sappi has also presented initial results of the cooperation agreement between it and Felix Schoeller, with the two companies having developed a paper-based, sealable packaging option with high-barrier properties against water vapor, oxygen and grease.
