James Cropper appoints business head
Papermaker names Mike Gibson as head of business development.
James Cropper Paper & Packaging has appointed Mike Gibson as head of business development as the company accelerates its expansion into new markets and explores innovative product opportunities.
Gibson, who initially joined the company as business development manager in May, adds more than 25 years of experience across the paper, packaging and corrugate industries, with expertise spanning carrier bags, food and merchant packaging and sales leadership in both the UK and international markets. He has held senior roles at Cepac, H-Pack and ARC International in the US, where he collaborated with corrugators nationwide and contributed to innovations such as Marks & Spencer's paper bag for life.
'James Cropper is an exceptional name in the industry, with a heritage that spans centuries,' noted Gibson. 'Its reputation precedes it and being part of this prestigious company really appealed to me. It's an exciting time at James Cropper. The business has a rich heritage and now it's evolving for the modern era. I'm thrilled to be part of that transformation.'
Gibson's expertise in both premium and everyday packaging, combined with his global experience, positions him to help lead James Cropper into its latest era of innovation as it builds on the recent launch of its Coloursource brand of paper materials. The company is now well-positioned to meet a wider range of customer needs, from standard packaging to highly customized, cutting-edge offerings, strengthening its brand, market relevance and long-term growth potential.
'The senior leadership team is developing strategies and products that many in the industry may not yet realize we offer,' Gibson added. 'Our goal is to ensure customers fully understand our capabilities, providing everyday essentials while maintaining the premium, made-in-the-UK standards James Cropper is known for.'
Alongside Gibson's appointment, Julia Lawrence has been named head of regional accounts, joining Mickael Minot, appointed brand owner director earlier this year, to complete the restructuring of the company's sales team. All three now report directly to managing director Paul Barber, reinforcing a strong leadership framework to drive growth and innovation.
'We are delighted to appoint Mike as head of business development,' Barber concluded. 'His extensive experience across the paper, packaging and corrugate industries, combined with a strong track record of innovation and market growth, makes him the perfect addition as we accelerate into new markets. James Cropper is entering a new phase of growth. Following a period of realignment, the business is well-positioned to capitalize on emerging market opportunities, deliver innovative products and expand across both premium and everyday packaging segments.'
