Flex-Punkt installs second Miraclon Flexcel NX

German prepress specialist increases platemaking capacity following its transition to Flexcel Prime plates.

Flex-Punkt Druckformen has installed a second Miraclon Flexcel NX Wide 4260 system to increase flexographic platemaking capacity and strengthen production security at its facility in Melle-Wellingholzhausen, Germany.

Commissioned in September 2026, the system follows the company’s earlier transition to Flexcel Prime plates. Flex-Punkt installed its first Flexcel NX Wide 4260 in 2013 and earned Miraclon Certification Program approval in 2023.

David Weber, managing director of Flex-Punkt, said: ‘Production security was the primary reason for investing in a second Flexcel NX system. Having two systems also gives us the flexibility to absorb peak workloads and respond more efficiently to urgent customer requests while maintaining smooth and reliable production.’

The new system handles most day-to-day production, while the original remains in regular use to provide additional capacity and accommodate special projects.

Software upgrades have enabled Flex-Punkt to add capabilities to its original system, including PureFlexo Printing surface patterning. The company also uses Automated Plate Layout.

Flex-Punkt participated in beta testing of Flexcel Prime plates before their launch in March 2026 and subsequently completed a full transition.

Vadim Becker, managing director of Flex-Punkt, said: ‘We did not need to create new curves with our printer customers, and all existing jobs could be imaged and printed on Flexcel Prime plates without any adjustments.’

According to Becker, faster post-exposure has also eased a production bottleneck, saying: ‘The significantly faster post-exposure process has improved our time management and reduced pressure on what used to be a bottleneck in our finishing workflow.’

Founded in 1994 as a three-person business, Flex-Punkt now employs more than 60 people. It supplies customers in flexible packaging, napkin and gift-wrap printing, as well as regional brand owners, with services spanning artwork, reproduction, proofing and flexographic plate production.

Founder and managing partner Günther Weber has overseen a generational transition, with the leadership team now including David Weber and Becker, who became managing director in 2024.
