RFID from Paxar proves fully functional for Metro group

An evaluation undertaken by the Metro Group retail corporation one year after their large-scale introduction of RFID technology reveals that Paxar has achieved a read rate of 100 per cent for pallet labeling.
As part of the Metro Group’s RFID rollout, Paxar supplied five of a total of Metro’s 20 suppliers with RFID printers and labels: Gerry Weber International AG, Triumph International Holding GmbH, Schwartauer Werke GmbH & Co. KGaA, GlaxoSmithKline GmbH & Co. KG and Wagner Tiefkhlprodukte GmbH. The Metro Group found that the read rate for labels was 100 per cent for the pallets delivered by all five companies supplied by Paxar. The Metro Group evaluated the reliability of the RFID technology from several companies used for pallet labeling one year after their RFID rollout in November 2004.
The read rate of 100 per cent has been achieved with Paxar’s bar code printer 9855 RFID and RFID labels from Paxar’s own production. The 9855 RFID printer also programs, verifies and prints extremely small RFID labels measuring only 2.54 centimeters in length.
Paxar Central Europe GmbH in Sprockhvel is a partner in the Metro Group Future Store Initiative, a joint project of companies from the information technology and consumer goods industries. Its objective is to promote innovations in retailing on a national and international level. The initiative shall be understood as a platform for technical and process-related developments and innovations in retailing including RFID.
