Siegwerk opens production plant in St. Petersburg

Siegwerk, the largest European ink manufacturer, has opened a production plant in St. Petersburg, Russia.
‘Russia is a fascinating market, in which we invest, in order to offer our most important Russian customers fast, on-site service,’ said Siegwerk’s CEO Herbert Forker at the opening of the new facility on October 26, 2006.
Over the last years, Siegwerk has built-up a stable market position in Russia, the Ukraine and several adjacent countries. In the area of high-quality inks for tobacco packaging, for example, the company’s market share in Russia is about 70 per cent.
‘Russia has ascended in the past years to become the center of packaging ink for cigarette and tobacco products,’ said Hugo Noordhoek Hegt, the member of Siegwerk board of directors who is responsible for this product range. ‘With our new production plant we signal a clear commitment to the Russian market.’
In the future, packaging offset ink as well as solvent-based colors will be produced in two new buildings in St. Petersburg. Over the past few years, important customers and brand-name manufacturers have established themselves near the new plant, so that fast delivery and optimal service support are guaranteed.
Besides St. Petersburg, Siegwerk is additionally represented with a branch in Moscow. Here the production of inks for flexible packaging is in the foreground. The two production plants are part of a European production group, in which basic colors are prefabricated in a few central manufacturing plants and later tailored to specific customer requests within a network of finishing and service units.
