Iggesund launches Invercote e-commerce initiative

Iggesund Paperboard has launched an e-commerce system in the US for the direct sale of Invercote, as it looks to take advantage of the growth in digital printing.

The company said technological progress is enabling presses to handle formats and thicknesses that make them better suited to packaging production, and marketers are increasingly understanding the potential of its applications.

This has been supplemented by an improvement in the quality of print reproduction associated with digital, and the growth in variable printing.

With these factors in mind, Iggesund Paperboard is now launching an e-commerce system in the US for the direct sale of Invercote, with payment by credit card and distribution via courier.

Iggesund’s sales office in the US is behind the project. All conversion and distribution will be done in the US via already existing contacts. Customers will be able to order a limited number of sheets to meet the weight limits set by the courier, UPS.

Iggesund’s new venture into e-commerce and courier delivery reflects the company’s desire to access digital printing customers throughout the US.

Rickard Österlindh, president of Iggesund Paperboard in the US, and who is responsible for the company’s global strategy in the digital printing segment, said: ‘The digital market involves only a small number of standard sheet sizes and we can undoubtedly provide good service to this market throughout the country.

‘Most American paper merchants are less focused on digital print markets than they are on traditional offset print markets, and their distribution models are not set up to service what can, at times, be very small volumes.

‘The e-commerce solution is intended to enable Iggesund to capture these smaller volume opportunities, of which there are many. In this respect, we believe our new service will be a success.’

He added: ‘This is one way we can expand into places that we can’t access through our established, traditional distribution partners. It’s also a very interesting experiment. Many digital printers don’t come from within the traditional graphical industry and so they are more open to less conventional solutions.

‘Iggesund is ready to expand its already impressive growth in digital print markets. Invercote performs exceptionally well in all digital presses and we want to increase our visibility to include the entire spectrum of the digital printer market.’
