Mondi inaugurates Štětí paper machine
The new equipment adds 210,000 tons of kraft paper capacity annually.
Mondi has inaugurated a state-of-the-art paper machine at its Štětí mill in the Czech Republic, welcoming over 130 customers and partners to the celebration.
The new machine, which started up in December 2024, will produce around 210,000 tons of high-performance kraft paper per year. It delivers a broad range of high-strength and high-porosity grades for construction, industrial and eCommerce applications, meeting growing customer demand for paper-based flexible packaging driven by eCommerce and an increasing focus on sustainability.
The paper machine forms part of a 400 million EUR investment in the mill, enhancing Mondi's ability to provide customers with a reliable supply of kraft paper and to support their transition to renewable and recyclable paper-based packaging. It also enables Mondi to optimize production across its wider kraft paper portfolio, offering customers a full range of high-quality specialty kraft papers including functional barrier grades.
'This is more than a paper machine, it is a symbol of what we can achieve when innovation, sustainability and teamwork come together,' said Andrew King, Mondi Group CEO. 'It enables us to continue delivering great service to our customers and the high-quality packaging materials they want to help them achieve their sustainability goals.'
Miroslav Zitka, managing director of the Štětí mill, and Vladimir Krajci, project director Mondi Kraft Paper, shared insights into the project's journey from design to start-up, highlighting the teamwork, safety and dedication that ensured the project was completed on time and on budget.
The event featured a panel discussion with customers, machine producers and industry experts discussing market trends, sustainability and the importance of collaboration across the packaging value chain. The day concluded with guided tours of the new machine, networking and celebrations.
